Job Description:
DEFINITION:
Assist in the support and development of a school-parent-community relationship.
Other assignments involve contact with parents, instruction, recruitment, health components, and monitoring of independent study program units; and perform other relevant duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bilingual in English/Spanish Valid Idaho driver's license and auto insurance Pass Idaho Praxis Paraeducator Exam EXAMPLES OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Identify and recruit migrant students.
Initiate and maintain records for each migrant student.
Update enrollments and withdrawals.
Update records relating to health needs, attendance, student's academic progress, etc.
Authenticate students' migrant status.
Develop supportive attitude among migrant parents toward school attendance and the educational progress of their children.
Inform migratory parents of community resources.
Attend parent meetings.
Provide instructional activities to migrant students.
Drive district or personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement) as directed and as needed.
Monitor student progress in independent study program units by home visits and telephone calls.
Acquaint parents of migrant students with the migrant program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIESKnowledge of:
English and Spanish.
Basic computer skills with applications such as MS Word, MS Excel etc.
General office procedures and office machines (computer, fax, and copier).
Correct English/Spanish usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
General needs and behavior of students of various backgrounds.
Record-keeping techniques.
Oral and written communication skills.
Work on a flexible schedule.
Provide transportation (with mileage reimbursement).
Work with business and community resources to support Migrant families Visit family work environment to recruit/find students eligible for Migrant Services MINIMUM QUALIFICAIONS:
Education/Certification:
Two years of college education or pass the Paraeducator Idaho Praxis.
Fluent in Spanish and English.
Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematicsSpecial Knowledge/Skills:
Proficient skills in keyboarding, word processing, and file maintenance Communication & interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with parents, staff and community.
Basic math skills Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and databases and do word processing Bilingual English and Spanish (reading, written, and spoken) Prepare correspondence, forms, reports, etc.

Compile pertinent data as needed when preparing various state and local reports.
Maintain physical and computerized departmental files.
Perform routine bookkeeping tasks, including simple arithmetic operations, for the department.
Maintain departmental records as needed.
Answer incoming calls, take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff.
Assist in orienting parents to the school system and community.
Assist with parental involvement activities and parent communication as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
Serve as a liaison between the school and the parent/families of the school.
Travel to campuses to assist with parent issues and concerns as necessary.
Create bilingual outreach materials for parents such as flyers about activities.
Maintain confidentiality of information.
COMPENSATIONSalary based on experience and skills.
Position qualifies for benefits which include health, dental, vision and life insurance; PERSI retirement, paid vacation as well as access to optional ancillary insurance and retirement products.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTThis position shall be considered in all respects employment at will.
