Job Description:
Works in a team and/or individual environment to operate, maintain, test, troubleshoot, install, and repair station apparatus.
Knowledge of:
+ OSHA regulations
+ Chemical safety
+ The CARES program and Safe Work Practices (IPC Safety Manual)
+ Company regulations and policies
+ Bucket truck rescue and rigging and fall protection
+ Electricity, electronics, hydraulics, and pneumatics
+ Algebra and trigonometry
+ Utility system practices and utility business practices
+ Substation construction and maintenance techniques
+ Hand and power tool operation
+ Electrical, mechanical, and structural schematics
+ Oil processing and SF6 equipment
+ Heavy equipment and substation operation
+ Power transformers, load tap changers, potential and current transformers
+ Power circuit breakers, metal clad switchgear, circuit switchers, disconnect and air break switches, synchronous condensers, series and shunt capacitors, AC & DC controls
+ Batteries, protection equipment, mobile transformers, oil vacuum filter equipment, transformer assembly and disassembly.
Skills in:
+ Interpersonal communication and good verbal and written communication
+ Problem identification, problem solving, troubleshooting, operating test equipment
+ Basic use of personal computers utilizing software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, databases, and email
+ Organization and time management.
Ability to:
+ Make effective decisions, set and achieve goals, commit to personal and professional growth
+ Read and understand station drawings
+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships
+ Work independently and be self-motivated and flexible
+ Meet project deadlines
+ Apply established guidelines and use good judgment and initiative in resolving work problems.
+ High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). OR
+ Completion of vocational/technical training, military training, OR
+ An associate?s degree in any of the following areas: electronics, electrical mechanics instrumentation, machinery/mechanics, hydraulic/ pneumatic systems, or refrigeration/air-conditioning; OR
+ An equivalent combination of training and experience, or an equivalent combination of appropriate education and experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.
+ Two years recent experience in an electrical or mechanical maintenance operation or construction field.
Licenses and Certifications
+ Valid driver?s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position. Valid DOT medical card or the ability to obtain one prior to hire. Valid commercial driver?s license (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
+ Valid Class A CDL driver?s license (or ability to obtain within 90 days) with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position. If CDL is not obtained within the specified time frame corrective action, up to and including termination of employment may occur.
+ High school diploma or GED.
+ Successful completion of the BAT certified Substation Technician Apprentice Training Program or equivalent
+ Completion of vocational/technical training
+ Military training OR
+ An A/S in any of the following areas: electricity/electronics, instrumentation, machinist/mechanical, refrigeration/air conditioning, or hydraulic/pneumatic systems OR
+ An equivalent combination of appropriate education and experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.
+ Two years of power station related experience including operation, maintenance, and installation.
Licenses & Certifications:
+ Valid Class A CDL with an acceptable driving record according to driving requirements of the position. Ability to obtain DOT Medical Card prior to employment or placement in job.
+ Required to maintain an annual proficiency certification. Must obtain First Aid/CPR card within 90 days.
Requires physical ability to perform work in the field up to 85 percent of the time in adverse weather conditions (extreme heat or cold), on uneven terrain, and/or within proximity of energized equipment; drive in all weather conditions; work in and around substations and occasionally work in confined spaces. Job requires the ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, crawl, climb into and out of vehicles, twist, kneel, balance and reach. Occasionally lift items weighing up to 75 pounds shoulder height and above, waist high, and knee high. Occasionally use exertional force of up to 125 lbs to push/pull items; Occasionally carry items weighing up to 75 pounds with one or two hands. Use foot controls when driving vehicles. Must be able to grasp and hold simple hand tools and testing equipment and use fine motor skills to use a computer keyboard, test equipment, and replace parts. Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment, post-offer Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exam.
+ Apprentices must be physically able to perform all essential job functionswithout posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property.
+ Apprentices must also be at least 21 years of age.
+ Enrollment in Stations Technician Training Program
+ Completion of other required safety training.
Job will require the ability to travel extensively with overnight stays, ability to work hitches away from headquarters, and ability to work on-call.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
